The GFD Real Estate Database

Global Financial Data’s Real Estate database includes data on over 500 real estate series from over 50 countries. The database includes information on residential and commercial property prices, single-family houses and condominiums, and large-city and small city prices.

Data for the United States includes series for each state as well as over 200 metropolitan areas with these data series beginning in 1975. Regional series provide data back to the 1960s.

Data on housing prices in England begins in 1269. Other countries have done research to provide information on real estate prices back to the 1800s. Data for Norway goes back to 1841 and Sweden back to 1875.

With this extensive history of prices, users can compare the performance of real estate against stocks, bonds, bills and commodities to determine under what conditions real estate outperforms other asset classes.
